THE UNKNOWN CHILD

Sadness for young foreign troops
who die far from home in occupied lands
And in memory of the unfortunate children
tortured and killed by their warring hands

Dead bodies decorated with medals
make a homeland proud of sacrifice
But the limp form of a murdered child
often without proper burial, remains unnoticed

People so manipulated by deceit
that murder has become commonplace
It's called defence, bravery and patriotism
but in fact it's humanity's undeniable atrocity

Few care about the unknown child
those on the "wrong" side of war die alone
Their unheard cries fly away in the wind
and a double face stares without focus

God help all children as we remember
the child of Light born centuries ago
When the spirit of Christmas surrounds you
pray for the unwilling dead of this absurd war.
